Pulling back the curtain...
It's been brought to my attention that my readers want more than art posts, that they'd like to get to know the man behind the art as well. I admit it, I'm pretty quiet about my personal life, I just figured folks would be more interested in the artwork. So... with that being said, what do you want to know? What would you like to see more of in this journal? I can chat about work... art, art directing, graphic design, freelancing, or Talisman Studios in general. Maybe you want to know what it was like being in the Navy for nine years or about being married for seventeen. You tell me. I'm all ears, and I'll do my best to open things up a bit from this point on.

Personally I feel like hearing what you feel like sharing.

Fudruckers was so worth it, especially at 60s prices. :)

How are things? Move yet? I know you told me your timetable, but my memory is like swiss. ;)

That's good to hear. I'm glad you're settling in. I'm in the same boat as you, missed all of last week with the flu, and I'm still not 100%. Man, playing catch up is a bitch.

I enjoy your work and I'd love to know more about the context- who you're working with and who you're working for- and how you go about creating images and stuff like that.

I can chat about work... art, art directing, graphic design, freelancing, or Talisman Studios in general.

I'd like a large order of this, please.

I believe the answer is, yes please. All those topics sound interesting. But this is a journal so really the only thing that goes in it is the stuff you want to go in it.

I feel like I need to know the man BEHIND the man. What makes him tick. What was it like to really be a person behind the scenes of the game making and creative world. How does it pay the bills? What happens when an old friend from Jacksonville randomly flies up, does he get to crash on the couch or does the Aaron have a guest room that he and his wife could stay on? You know, the really important things in life.

What's your favorite line from the Star Wars movies (yeah, you can include THOSE three as well)

Would you love to see a celebrity death match between gollum and doby?

What is the meaning of life? Why are there two Starbucks on Hollywood Blvd right across from one another?

Just a few things I figured you could answer for me. hah

We live in upsate NY in a former mother-in-law apartment in the basement of an old farm house. No spare bedroom, I'm afraid... but we have had a guest or two crashing in the living room (waves at satyrblade).

My favorite line is SW? Well, it's from Empire... when Han's about to get lowered into the carbonite and say "I know" to Leia's "I love you"... classic, and ad lib by Harrison Ford.

Gollum would beat doby down... if he wasn't already burned to a crisp in lava.

If you find out the meaning of life, let me know.

Those starbucks are actually beacons for otherwordly invaders... marking the spot for the inital invasion.

Boxer briefs actually. The best of both worlds. :)

Pets? Doing GenCon this year? (I won't be.) :(
What games do you play? Or do you?

I have a dog and a cat.

Dog is named Jackson (after Jacksonville), but everyone just calls him Jack. He's half dachshund, half pitbull and just loves to play. His favorite game is chase... he loves to run laps around the house or yard. He's got lots of energy, so many nights I have to take him out the yard and let him run it off before he'll settle down. He's my little buddy. I think I'd go crazy if I didn't have him around for company (I work from home full time).

My cat Issac, is seventeen years old, going on eighteen. My wife and I call him the crotchety old man. We think he wants to outlive the dog for spite, so he's hanging in there. It actually pretty funny, the dog tries to makes friends almost every day... bringing the cat a bit of fuzz from one of his destroyed toys or rolling on the floor in front of the cat and whining at him, but in typical cat fashion, he wants none of it. There has been an interesting development recently though... the cat's started sleeping on top of the dog in one of the chairs in my office. The dog climbs up for a nap under a blanket, and as soon as he's settled, the cat jumps up and curls into a little ball on top of the dog. :)

I play games as much as I can, but not as much as my lovely wife, she's now the reigning gamer in the house. For me, it's usually City of Heroes on PC or Halo 3 on XBOX 360. I'm going to be playing in a semi-regular Fantasy Grounds game of Shaintar in the near future, which is cool, because I haven't had a regular RPG group going since I'm moved back to NY a few years ago.

I am an avid gamer, and I'll give most games a try. I've played a TON of rpgs, board games, card games, mini games, etc., just don't get to do a lot of that outside of cons these days.

Chat about whatever you want, amigo. It's all cool. Most of my LJ posts are mini-updates on my life, or anecdotes about the kids, or rants about something going on at work or home. It's your LJ--use it as you wish. :)

Oh, and sorry I haven't been doing the flash gallery fiction lately. I've been busy with TS writing projects. I'm still enjoying the pics, though, and when I get a break I'll definitely start contributing again.

No worries, I'm really happy to have you working on Talisman books (again)! I really liked the story you turned in for Shaintar and can't wait to see what you come up with for Free Musketeers. Contribute here when you can, I'll keep doing it until folks tell me enough already. :)

Thanks for the compliments, amigo. And when you say "can't wait to see what you come up with for Free Musketeers" do you mean the RPG book or related fiction? There's a short fiction snippet in there but it'd be a lot of fun to do more in that setting!

I meant the RPG (it's still in editing so it hasn't hit my inbox yet), but there's a good chance you'll get to play in the setting some more. We're doing Suzerain Illustrated in addition to Shaintar, so I suspect we'll be tapping you for more fiction after this batch of RPG material is finished.

Just post what YOU comfortable posting about.

Life with Neen, Talisman, your time in the Navy, gaming.

Your journal, your thoughts, your words.

It's all you man!

The theatre geek in me requires me to ask.. what's your favorite musical? :)

Awesome. Great show. I loooove The Origin Of Love.

That's my favorite of the bunch.

It's such a beautiful song.

*finds recording*

Whatever you feel like writing about, although personally I'd love to know more about art directing and your studio. :)

Hey Aaron,

Personally, I would like to know how you broke into the business. I have been creating fantasy artwork since forever, but never found any way to break into the business. How did you accomplish it?
